Bilingual Extension Track (BET)

NYU Steinhardt’s Department of Communicative Sciences and Disorders offers a Bilingual Extension Track (BET). The BET is not a certificate or license itself. The track includes course work and clinical experiences designed for bilingual or multilingual students admitted to the master of science in Communicative Sciences and Disorders program. These students wish to pursue the New York State Education Department’s (NYSED) Teacher for Students with Speech and Language Disabilities-Bilingual Extension (TSSLD-BE) certification. Students will need to pass the examinations required by NYSED and obtain NYSED’s Teacher for Students with Speech and Language Disabilities (TSSLD) certificate to successfully acquire the Bilingual Extension.

This track is designed only for certification eligibility in New York State. Students interested in bilingual education who do not wish to pursue the New York TSSLD-BE should consider the bilingual elective within the course work from the BET, but without a fieldwork component. Please refer to NYU Steinhardt’s Bilingual Extension for additional information.
